How can we help?

Answers about connecting your account, how we calculate what you paid, and managing your plan.

Getting started

What does TrueSpend do?

Your bank statement shows one Amazon charge. TrueSpend shows you the items behind it: what you bought, what you actually paid for each one, and which category it belongs to, so you can see where your Amazon money goes.

How do I set up my account?
  • Sign up with your email address.
  • Connect your account. Use the Google account linked to your Amazon account.
  • Wait for the first sync. Most accounts are ready in a few minutes.
  • Review your report. You'll see a summary of your last 12 months, then your full dashboard.
How far back does TrueSpend look?

Your first sync brings in the last 12 months of Amazon orders. After that, each sync adds your new orders without duplicating old ones.

Which Amazon stores are supported?

We currently support Amazon.com and Amazon.ca. Other Amazon stores are on our roadmap.

Connecting your account

Which email providers do you support?

Google accounts (Gmail and Google Workspace) only, for now. Your Amazon account needs to use that Google email address. We're working on support for more providers.

What permission does TrueSpend ask Google for?

We ask for read-only access. TrueSpend can't send, delete, or change anything in your inbox.

We only look at messages from Amazon. Your personal emails are never opened, and we never see your Google password.

How do I sync new orders?

Select Sync Transactions on your dashboard. TrueSpend adds any orders placed since your last sync. A very recent purchase can take a few hours to appear.

How do I disconnect Gmail?

Go to Settings → Connected account and select Disconnect. You can also remove TrueSpend from your Google account at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Transactions you've already imported stay in your account until you delete them.

Transactions & amounts

Why is “Amount Paid” different from the list price?

List price is what Amazon advertised. What you were charged also reflects discounts, coupons, Subscribe & Save, gift cards, tax and shipping.

Amount Paid accounts for all of that, so it shows what each item really cost you. The items in an order always add up to the total you were charged.

How are refunds handled?

Refunds appear as their own line with a negative amount, so your original purchase history stays intact. They're subtracted from your Net Spend. If you return one item from a multi-item order, only that item's refund is recorded.

An order is missing. What should I do?
  • Run Sync Transactions again. Amazon can be slow to send confirmations.
  • Check the order was placed with the Amazon account that uses the email address you connected.
  • Orders placed outside Amazon.com or Amazon.ca aren't imported yet.

You can always add an order yourself with Add Transaction.

Can I edit or delete a transaction?

Yes. Use the pencil icon to edit a transaction's category, essential status or amount, and the trash icon to remove it. Changes update your charts right away.

Why doesn't my total match my credit card statement?

Amazon often charges your card when each shipment leaves the warehouse, so one order can appear as several charges on different dates. TrueSpend groups by order instead. Totals for a full month usually line up; individual charges may not.

Categories & reports

How are items categorized?

TrueSpend categorizes each item automatically and suggests whether it's essential or discretionary. You can change any category, and your choice is kept.

What counts as “essential”?

Essentials are things you need, like groceries, toiletries and household supplies. Discretionary is everything you could live without. We make a first guess, and you decide: flip the Essential toggle on any item.

Does TrueSpend show my Subscribe & Save items?

TrueSpend finds the items you buy again and again. Items reordered on a steady rhythm are flagged as possible Subscribe & Save. Amazon's order details don't always say whether an item is on a subscription, so treat these as a helpful guess and check your Amazon account to confirm.

How do I change the report's date range?

Use the date menu at the top of your dashboard to choose this month, the last 3, 6 or 12 months, or a custom range. All charts and totals update to match.

Can I export my data to YNAB or Monarch?

Yes. Select Export above your transactions table and choose CSV, YNAB or Monarch Money format. Exports use Amount Paid, so they match what you actually spent.

Billing & plans

How does the free trial work?

You get 14 days of full access. We'll remind you before the trial ends. If you cancel before then, you won't be charged.

What do the plans cost?

Monthly is $6.99 per month. Annual is $59.99 per year, which saves 28%, about 3 months free. Prices are in USD, and applicable sales tax is added at checkout.

How do I cancel or change my plan?

Go to Settings → Billing to switch plans or cancel. Monthly plans stay active until the end of the period you've paid for. Annual plans are refunded for the unused portion.

Who handles my payment details?

Payments are processed by Stripe. TrueSpend never sees or stores your full card number.

Privacy & your data

Do you store my emails?

No. We keep only the order details TrueSpend needs, like the order number, date, items and amounts. Email content is never stored.

Do you sell my data or use it to train AI?

No. We don't sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it to train AI models. It's used only to show you your own spending. See our Privacy Policy for details.

How do I export or delete my data?

Export everything from Settings → Your data. To delete your account and all transactions, select Delete account. We permanently delete your data within 30 days.

Can I add family members?

Not yet. Multi-user accounts are coming. For now, each person needs their own account and Gmail connection.
